This March, in recognition of the importance of senior nutrition programs, Mayor Joseph Hankins and the Township Council had the honor of presenting Heather deJong of Meals on Wheels of Ocean County with a Proclamation celebrating the organization’s decades of service!
For more than fifty years, Meals on Wheels Ocean County has helped older adults remain safely in their homes by providing access to nutritious meals and meaningful social connection, the Proclamation reads. In 2025 alone, the organization delivered more than 286,000 meals to more than 2,200 seniors.
Mayor Hankins noted that senior hunger and isolation are concerns that Meals on Wheels helps to alleviate through dedicated staff and volunteers. “They make personal contact with seniors every day, and that’s huge for those folks who can’t get out,” said Mayor Hankins as he personally thanked Ms. deJong and the entire Meals on Wheels organization for their vital services.
“We like to say we’re more than meals. We are the community care and connection for our homebound and socially isolated residents,” said Ms. deJong.
We invite our residents to read the attached Proclamation to learn more about Meals on Wheels Ocean County, and to visit their website at csimow.org for further information!
